Behaviour Checklist – Child

Positive behaviour is what we strive for. It requires adults to be informed about how to approach behaviour and remain calm while teaching a child behavioural expectations. The basics of behaviour are:

1. Recognise your child’s positive behaviour

2. Acknowledge and reward positive behaviour

3. Use natural consequences as responses to poor behaviour

4. Focus on factual responses to poor behaviour, avoid criticising your child

5. Ignore minor indiscretions, focus on major problem behaviours

6. Ignore inappropriate laughing, giggling, silly language

7. Model positive behaviour

8. Seek professional help if major problems are becoming persistent
